FEED THE KIDS PROJECT
WHEN HUNGRY CHILDREN GET FRESH BREAD, IT CAN CHANGE EVERYTHING
According to Vision Launch the poverty rate in Jamaica is predicted to make a small improvement in 2016 as it is expected to go down to 18.7percent from the 19.9 percent in 2012. (http://visionlaunch.com/5-staggering-jamaica-poverty-rate-statistics-and-facts)
The country is confronted by serious social issues that predominantly affect youth, such as high levels of crime, violence and high unemployment which lead to poverty. Poverty hits children the hardest, because when there are severe lack of goods and services it hurts every human, it is most threatening to children’s rights: survival, health and nutrition, education, participation, and protection from harm and exploitation. Poverty creates an environment that is damaging to children’s development in every way – mental, physical, emotional and spiritual.
Working Together to End Hunger
Hunger knows no boundaries — it touches every community in the Jamaica including MY own. Food is a basic human right, yet many children in Jamaica go to school hungry. The poverty rate has increased in the past years and has resulted in the rise of inequality, a wider gap among classes, and a larger portion of Jamaicans falling below the poverty line. When the global economic crisis struck, the poverty rate went up by 8 percent in just a few years.
VHDC Feed the Kids program is our way of helping to put an end to hungry children.
